Sea room of Cove Giagana ,Kefalonia
During a research programme of the Ephorate of Underwater Antiquities, pottery accumulation was detected in the sea room of the cove Giagana, in the seaway between Kefalonia and Ithaka in around 30 m. depth, and directly the decision of an identification research was taken.
Main goal was the identification of the find, its survey, the topographic survey of the surrounding sea room, to take pictures, the creation of photomosaic, to obtain samples of the finds, the examination of the coastal area and finally to point out the essential technical prerequisites for organizing a complete excavation.
The sum of pottery at the wreck site comprises mainly of parts of big vessels of closed type, which according to the first evaluation are dated to the Protohelladic Period(PH II-PH III,2750-2000 B.C.). From the wreck, samples of the finds were taken on board (3 almost entire ydriae).

The Giagana Wreck is considered as a very important one due to its early dating, as a result its finds have been included to the Exhibition of Underwater Antiquities in the Pasha building (Pylos Fort).
The continuation of the research and especially of the excavation is essential, in support of the discovery.
